Marionette Lines

“Marionette Lines” are the lines that run from the corners of the mouth down to the chin. They are called “marionette” because they can make us look like a marionette puppet if the creases are deep enough. Marionette lines are caused by repeated movement of the mouth, coupled by the loss of fat and skin elasticity that occurs as a result of natural aging. Lost skin volume causes lines to turn into deeper creases. They tend to give the mouth a down-turned look, as if you are frowning even when you are not. Many of us feel these lines make us look sad, tired, or older than we truly are.

The marionette lines can be corrected with dermal fillers. Treatments with dermal fillers correct lost volume, taking away the “sad” look. The goal of a marionette line treatment is to soften their appearance, rejuvenating that part of your face.

Several types of dermal fillers are commonly used for treatment of marionette lines: permanent, semi-permanent and non-permanent. Each filler differs in a way in which it builds up volume under the skin, as well as the length of time it remains in the cheeks.

Below are listed some of our recommendations. The effects of marionette line treatment remains visible for up to 6-9 months. Eventually, the body absorbs the injected dermal filler, and the lines will reappear. Many patients opt to undergo regular treatments to maintain their smooth appearance.
