Tear Troughs

As we age and lose soft tissue volume, trough-like hollows can appear in the crease where the cheekbone meets the under eye. This makes the eye sockets much more prominent while making us look gaunt. Being a key facial feature, it is not surprising that so many of us have issues with under eye hollows and aging in this area.
There are many causes of tear trough deformities such as genetics, lack of sleep, lifestyle and aging. Besides, some people are simply born with a shallow bone structure and lack of fat in this area. But in most cases, sagging is caused by the loss of facial fat in the under-eye and cheek area or could be a result of ligament loosening. Because the skin here is quite thin, it tends to show the effects of aging sooner than the rest of the face. A non-surgical tear trough treatment may alleviate these effects.
A tear trough treatment involves the injection of dermal filler above the eye socket bone to add volume and structure to the tear trough. This filler is then massaged into the fatty tissues underneath the eye, filling in this depression from inside the skin. The treatment plumps up hollow under-eye areas, while concealing dark circles by filling in the loose skin. Only 1ml of dermal filler is needed, with half a milliliter or less injected underneath each eye. Below are listed some of the dermal fillers suitable for this procedure:
